About us
Bringing Stories To Life In Our Community
Since 1948, Carteret Community Theatre has been a place where creativity, storytelling, and community come together. What began as a small amateur theatre group has grown into a lasting cultural presence in Carteret County, built on passion, dedication, and local talent.
As a nonprofit theatre in downtown Morehead City, NC, we produce live plays, musicals, concerts, and community events. Our stage welcomes performers, volunteers, and audiences of all ages, creating opportunities to connect, learn, and experience live entertainment in a meaningful way.

A Legacy Of Theatre, Growth, And Community
For more than 75 years, Carteret Community Theatre has produced over 300 major productions, ranging from comedies and dramas to large scale musicals and children’s shows. Our work highlights local stories, regional history, and timeless performances while supporting arts education, youth programs, and community involvement across Carteret County.

From Local Roots To A Lasting Stage Presence
Our journey began with a passion for performance and a commitment to bringing theatre to Carteret County. Over the decades, we have produced a wide range of shows, including historical productions inspired by figures like Blackbeard and Otway Burns, along with popular musicals and family friendly performances that continue to draw audiences today.
In 2015, we established our permanent home at 1311 Arendell Street in Morehead City. Even through challenges, including years away from our theatre, our community remained strong. We continued producing shows, expanding programs, and staying connected with audiences across the area.

Supported By A Community That Believes In The Arts
The success of Carteret Community Theatre is made possible by the people who support it. Volunteers build sets, create costumes, manage productions, and bring performances to life. Local businesses, donors, and community members provide the support that keeps our mission moving forward year after year.
Through partnerships like the Missoula Children’s Theatre program and the LeRae Kesel Fund, we continue to create opportunities for young performers and support arts education throughout Carteret County. Every performance reflects the shared effort of a community that values creativity and connection.
